Our Equipment

We have assembled a variety of both mainstream and adaptive equipment to create the Puget Sound's most full service therapy center.

  • Standing Frames

Used to facilitate respiration, normalize bowel function, increase circulation, maximize weight bearing, increase range of motion, provide positive psychological impact, build cardiovascular endurance, reduce risk of pressure sore and decrease abnormal muscle tone.

  • Facilitated Electro-Stimulation (FES) Bicycles (arm and leg)

Used to allow persons with little or no voluntary leg movement to actively pedal a stationary leg-cycle.  Computer generated, low-level electrical pulses transmitted through surface electrodes cause coordinated contractions of your leg muscles. Sensors located in the bike provide continuous feedback to a computer which controls the sequence of muscle contractions as well as the resistance to pedaling. The result is smooth and natural pedaling, with your leg muscles supplying the power.

  • Total Gym Parallel Bars, Walkers

Used for stabilization during gait training as well as various strength training and balance exercises.

  • Passive and Active Arm and Leg Cycles

Used to facilitate respiration, increase circulation, increase range of motion, build cardiovascular endurance, reduce risk of pressure sores and decrease abnormal muscle tone.

  • Precor Functional Training System

Used for muscle performance (strength, power, and endurance), motor function, and neuro muscular development

  • LiteGait Body Weight Supported (BWS) Gait Training System

Used in advanced gait training and full body weight bearing strength activities

  • The Lokomat Robotic Gait Training System

Pushing Boundaries has the first robotic gait training program for the people of Washington State.

The Lokomat, developed in Switzerland by Hocoma, is the world’s first driven gait orthosis that automates locomotion therapy on a treadmill. The concept of "task-specific learning" based on neuroplasticity suggests that activities of daily living may be trained and improved through continuous repetition in neurological clients.

The Lokomat assists walking movements of gait-impaired patients and is used to improve mobility in individuals following stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis or other neurological diseases and injuries.  Functional movement and sensory stimulation play an important role in rehabilitation of neurological clients.

Why is the Lokomat important?

• The Lokomat offers faster progress through longer and more intensive training sessions compared to manual treadmill training
• Lokomat sessions are easily monitored and assessed
• Clients experience correct patterning for improved gait
• The Lokomat is adjustable to every client's needs

The benefits of Lokomat training:

• Increased muscular strength
• Increased flexibility
• Increase stimulation to musculoskeletal system
• Increased circulation and blood flow to areas prone to skin breakdown
• Postural improvements
• Maintenance of optimal health
• Maintenance of bone density
• Potential for increased joint integrity
• Potential to reduce pain and depression
• Potential of increased motor function
• Potential to reduce spasms

  • Traditional Rehabilitation Equipment: mats, mirrors, balls, bands, free weights, etc.

Used to increase active and passive range of motion, improve posture, breathing and balance, plus utilized for any other creative progressions we can invent!
